Phaedra Jean Art Machine - Incunabula
Linocut | 7 x 15 | 2007

This piece is a limited-edition, hand-printed lino-cut, in charcoal ink, finished with hand-drawing. The print comes signed and numbered. Incunabula is Latin for swaddling clothes or cradle and usually refers to an early printed book. It can also mean a work of art from an early period or the earliest stages in the development of anything. The clean lines and flat composition reference illustrations from early printings. From the undulating lines emerge the faces of children, each a work of industry, holding within themselves stories, ways of understanding that are the first traces in the development of what could be anything.
